Items to be carried during Badari Yatra

Many individuals are undertaking the Badari Yatra for the first time. Consequently, there may be some uncertainties regarding essential items to bring and those to forgo. The below article endeavors to address these ambiguities. Adherence to these guidelines will facilitate a smoother journey.

Mandatory Items

  1. 3 or 4 Full sized copies of your Adhar Card
  2. Dining plate and a tumbler
  3. A thermos flask
  4. A handbag which can accommodate a pair of clothes and your dining plate.
  5. A full arm thermal wear / sweater, woolen socks, hand glows and a monkey cap.
  6. Your regular medicines

Items that are not mandatory, but will be very useful

  1. A 15-meter nylon rope (for drying clothes).
  2. 20-25 Safety pins (for securing clothes while drying)

Note : Just because it’s a 15-day trip doesn’t mean you need to bring clothes for all fifteen days. Bringing clothes for 8 days is enough. This is because on our trip, you will get opportunities to wash and dry your clothes in several places. In such situations, you can dry your wet clothes with the help of this nylon rope. You can secure the clothes put out to dry using safety pins. Clothes clips would take up more space in the bag. Safety pins, on the other hand, don’t take up much space and are also easy to carry. Luggage for 15 days of clothes will definitely be a burden for you.

  1. Sandhyavandana Utensils
  2. A medium sized copper or brass plate
  3. List of your ancestors
  4. 50-75 copins of Rs.1 each

Items need not to be carried

  1. Ornaments
  2. Costly materials
  3. Unnecessary Cash
  4. Bedroll, Bedsheet, Mattress
  5. Sesame, Gopichandana, Janivara

Recommendations on Warm Clothings

During the summer days Badri Yatra, you’ll experience temperate weather conditions everywhere except Badarinath. This means you’ll need sweaters, socks, and other warm clothes only for 3 nights. The rest of the time, they’ll just be a burden. Even a light sweater will take up a lot of space in your bag, and can cause inconvenience  to your luggage. However, you can’t skip them entirely either. So, instead of sweaters, consider buying thermal wear.

These woolen thermal wear retains body heat and prevents cold by fitting snugly to the body. It can be worn under shirts, pants, churidars, or sarees. Its light weight and compact size makes it easy to carry and doesn’t take up much luggage space.

Good brands like Lux, Amul, Alpha, Vimal thermal wear are available at a price range between approximately 500 to 750 Rupees. These items can be conveniently purchased through online platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart, or at any local hosiery store. It is advisable to visit physical stores to acquire thermal wear that aligns with your specific requirements.

Even if you wish to bring your own sweaters, you are welcome to do so. However, please note that the cost of luggage transportation is not included in the yatra package. It is advisable to bring luggage only within your own capacity for your convenience.
