Gangasagar and East Coast Pilgrimage: Key Information
West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh are known for their intense heat. Therefore, it is crucial to take necessary precautions while traveling to these regions during summer to ensure your health is not compromised.
Important Details About the Journey:
Flat Terrain: Approximately 90% of the total route is on flat land. Unlike the high-altitude mountains of Uttarakhand, there are very few hilly paths on this journey.
The Destination (Gangasagar): Gangasagar is the holy confluence where the Ganges River meets the sea. It is an island located about a 3-hour journey from Kolkata.
Travel Mode & Route:
There is no need to climb any hills or steep terrains.
To reach Sagar Island, you must cross the vast Ganges River by boat, which takes about 45 minutes.
Upon reaching the island, you need to travel another 35 km in a small vehicle to reach the actual site of the sea confluence (Sagar Sangam).
Tip: Since this is a summer pilgrimage, stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water and use umbrellas or hats to protect yourself from the direct sun.
Those who bathe in the river or ocean should follow all cautionary measures. The responsibility for their protection lies with themselves. vasudevayatra.in is not responsible for any mishaps.
