Yatra Prarthana – English

It is not easy to undertake a yatra. This needs the absolute grace of Shri Hari Vayu Gurugalu. With such a grace, we are all going embark on a yatra to many difficult-to-reach Kshetras. Before commencing such yatras, let us pray to our family deity thusly.

Materials required

  1. Two coconuts (preferably those with husk)
  2. Two types of fruits
  3. Arishina and Kunkuma
  4. Flowers
  5. Mantrakshate
  6. Ghante (Bell)
  7. Two lamps
  8. One brass plate (Harivana)

At first, the lamps must be lighted in front of the Lord. Then the householder (holding the plate containing the 2 coconuts, fruits, flowers, and arishina-kunkuma) along with his wife (holding arishina-kunkuma) must stand in front of the Lord.

Paying obeisance to Sri Raghavendra Gurugalu and Tatvabhimaani deities, their indweller Shri Mukhya Praaana and his indweller Shri Hari for prompting us to undertake this yatra, pray that this yatra proceeds smoothly and flawlessly as prescribed in the scriptures, without having to see, touch or eat anything prohibited. Pray that the gods protect us from all sorts of dangers and that Pitru kaarya and tarpana go on well.

prayāṇē garuḍārūḍhaṁ pārijātaharaṁ harim |
satyayā sahitaṁ dhyāyēt sarvakāryārtha sid’dhayē ||

agratō nārasinhaśca pr̥ṣṭhatō gōpinandanaḥ|
ubhayōḥ pārśvayōḥ astāṁ saśarau rāmalakṣmaṇau ||

Then, contemplate and pray to Sage Agasthya with the following Mantra. Sage Agasthya reaches our destination well before us and renders conveniences for us there. This prayer must be made with the following shloka.

gaccha gautama śīghra tvaṁ grāmēṣu nagarēṣu ca |
āsanaṁ bhōjanaṁ śayyāṁ kalpayasva mamāgrataḥ ||

Then, over a small rangoli drawn in front of the Lord, place a small plank (wooden seat), and on top of this, place the plate containing the fruits. Slowly chiming the bell, put Mantrakshate on the fruit platter and on the Lord. Kaanike (monetary offering) can also be placed. Obeisance must be paid to the elders at home as well.

These 2 coconuts can be kept as such and taken as Prasada after the yatra. Before commencing the yatra, the flowers and fruits can be taken. Then, everyone should farewell the yatris happily.
